  • White fish fillets
  • Fresh ginger, thinly sliced
  • Garlic cloves, minced
  • Soy sauce
  • Sesame oil
  • Assorted vegetables
  • Green onions, thinly sliced

Preparation Method

Prepare the Fish

  • First, wash the fish pieces in cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
  • Make diagonal cuts on both sides of the fish to help it cook evenly.
  • Rub salt on both sides of the fish, inside the cuts, and in the cavity.

Prepare the Steaming Set-up

  • Place fish pieces on a heat-safe plate or steaming tray and season them with soy sauce, sesame oil, chopped garlic, and thin slices of ginger.

Prepare the Vegetables

  • Spread the vegetables out evenly around the fish pieces.

Prepare the Sauce

  • In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, sesame oil, Shaoxing wine, and minced garlic. Adjust the proportions to your taste.

Steam the Fish

  • Over medium heat, water in a pan or steamer pot should slowly boil.
  • Put the vegetables and fish in the steamer basket. Close the lid and steam for 8 to 10 minutes or until the fish is done and the vegetables are soft.

Finish and Serve

  • After heating, add thinly sliced green onions on top and serve.
  • Serve the steamed fish and vegetables immediately, over rice if desired.
